Go-cart with electric motor, joystick and steering lever

Go-cart with electric motor, steering lever folded up
Start » Go-cart with electric motor to trim flower beds
– facilitates gardening for wheelchair users
Description
The go-cart consists of four wheels with a wooden board on top. A plastic garden chair with the legs cut off works as a seat. Two electric motors that sit behind the seat by the rear wheels drive the ‘car’. A joystick operates as accelerator and brake. The ‘car' is steered with a long folding lever that sits on the front axle. The motors and joystick are taken from an electric wheelchair. Two car batteries sit at the back.
The steering lever folds forward to allow transfers so it does not get in the way for the user’s legs. The user sits on a wheelchair cushion. She uses foam rubber as padding at the sides and feet.
The user transfers from the wheelchair to the go-cart with an electric winch, see associated tip.
Authors comments
The user enjoys gardening, she used to do so while sitting in the wheelchair but her stomach hurt from bending down all the time. Her husband designed the go-cart for this purpose. She has had it for 14 years and uses it often to trim and weed the flower beds.
