Start » Highchair with opening from the side
Highchair appropriate for children whose parents sit in a wheelchair.
Description
The highchair opens from the side. The height of the wheelchair and the highchair are about the same. A parent who sits in a wheelchair and has the child on his or her lap can slide the child sideways into the highchair and avoid heavy lifting.
The chair is called "Stokke Sitti" and can be adjusted as the child grows. The stomach support and fabric strap on the side can be removed and the seat is washable.
Authors comments
The chair is easier to use because it can be opened from the side; the user does not have to lift the child. It is appropriate from about 6 months of age, or from the time that the child can sit.
The buckle can be a bit difficult to open for a person with compromised hand strength or function.
Some may find the chair expensive, but used chairs are often available.

Today Stokke does not sell 'Stokke Sitti' anymore. The chair is available at www.backinaction.co.uk/sitti in England (last checked ecember 2011).
Babybjörn, www.babyshop.com has a highchair with a foldout table which enables the mother/father to place the child into the chair from the side (last checked May 2011).
