Start » Transfer from floor to wheelchair with straight legs
Transfer technique for persons with strong arms when are not wearing shoes
Description
The user positions the wheelchair diagonally behind him. He sits on the floor with his legs straight in front of him. With the hand closest to the wheelchair he holds on to the wheelchair frame with his elbow pointing toward the ceiling. He supports himself with his other hand in a fist next to his hip. He leans forward and lifts himself up into the wheelchair.
Authors comments
It is easiest to do this transfer with bent legs (see associated tip). But if the user is not wearing shoes it can be difficult to place his feet appropriately. In such cases he does the transfer with straight legs, which is a heavier transfer. The straight leg transfer can be difficult for individuals with severe spasticity.
